Site Guide

So, how can you get the most out of EdNews Parent?

  • First, sign up for our weekly e-mail newsletter by plugging your e-mail address into the upper right corner of the site or by clicking here. It’ll give  you just enough information to stay in the loop about what’s going on in terms of healthy schools issues, teaching and learning, and school safety in Colorado –  without overwhelming you.
  • Pose a question to one of our EdNews Parent experts, who are volunteering their time and sharing their expertise with you because they feel so strongly about the need to engage more parents in a meaningful way on educational issues. As parents, we often have questions without easy answers, whether they are about our child’s experience in the classroom or a behavioral or mental health issue we are concerned about. These experts provide a first line of questioning to help you navigate the sometimes bumpy road that is parenting a school-aged child. Simply click on the links above, or click on “pose your question” under the Ask an Expert tab on the home page. You can also click on the link in the “Connect with us” box on the home page.
  • “Like” EdNews Parent on Facebook and Twitter.
  • Compare a school you are considering for your child – or your child’s current school – to other Colorado schools or schools where you live in our interactive Colorado School Data Center, which offers a visually pleasing way to see progress on CSAP tests, information on special school programs and student demographic data.
  • Read the EdNews Parent blog, aptly called Confessions of a Partially Proficient Parent, and share your thoughts and ideas.
  • To search by topic, plug your search term into the search box or review the tag cloud, which appears on the right side of inside pages.
  • Share your thoughts on the latest posts coming across EdNews Parent by posting a comment and creating a gravatar for yourself.
  • Download tip sheets from experts or the EdNews Parent staff and print them out to share. Or share them with other parents on Facebook or other social networking sites.
  • Want to know even more about one of our key topic areas? Look at the resource pages, which will be updated with solid information, including ground-breaking studies and useful websites you may not yet know about.
  • Watch EdNews Parent videos by clicking on the “You Tube” tab at the top of the page. You’ll be connected to the EdNews Parent You Tube channel.

Most importantly, enjoy tackling issues of the utmost importance to parents in Colorado. Soon, we will launch a discussion forum so you can start conversations with each other, too. Thanks for joining us. For more information about the site, click About Us.
